Basically, my kids 3rd and 4th grades have something for language arts and something for math every night. They have to do a reading log on many nights, but they aren't ever assigned to read a chapter of a specific book. It is reading 20 minutes and writing a paragraph about it.

We do almost always have some kind of long-term project going on, but some of them like science fair are optional and others are part of Curriculum Extension Units that we can say no to.

Since in 3rd grade they can start strings, and mine do, they have minutes of music practice a night. We sometimes have instructions to "study" for a science or social studies test, but there is no take-home homework in those areas.

That's allot of homework for a 1st grader. I would have started with a glass of wine!! My daughter's school doesn't offer a second langauge at her age. She has a journal for Language arts- that is sent home with sometype of homework task, but that has become hit or miss.

I'm not sure why. On Monday's she is sent home regularly with pages of math work that need to be completed and returned Friday.

Her daily tasks that take the palce of her journal work are reading for 30 mins, practicing her math and spelling flash cards. My daughter is in an advanced reading and math class, and I don't her group has anymore work than the others I hope this helps!

I am hoping that we can gain some sort of family life by moving to a school that has more balanced homework. We are supposed to meaning of cover letter for resume 20 to 30 minutes daily in addition to everything else, but we often do not get to it, and I think that reading is one of the more important things my children should do.
